Founded by J. Rene van Dorp, The Handyman Professor offers standard repair services for homes and vehicles.  While my career is in academia, my passion has always been working with my hands. I bring the same level of rigorous precision, critical thinking, and technical expertise to basic home and auto repairs.

 In terms of expertise in home repairs, I single handedly:

•  finished my basement (including dry wall install, electricity upgrade and replacing galvanized pipin by copper piping (by soldering joints the old fashined way). 

• installed a bathroom, 

• roughed in plumbing, 

• completed minor electrical work, 

• installed smart home cameras and thermostats, 

• added exterior windows in living room and kitchen,

• refaced our kitchen cabinets,

• installed vinyl floors in a variety of rooms.

In terms of expertise in restoring classic cars, I:

• restored a classic car (VW Karman Ghia from 1970),  

• upgrading both its brakes,  engine, suspension and interior. 

In terms of expertise in more modern cars, I installed:

•  Apple Carplay units and rearview cameras to upgrade a cars audio system of an FJ Cruiser, 2007 Honda Accord 2003 and a Volkswagen Tiguan 2016. 

• replaced front and rear bearing hubs on an FJ Cruiser 2007,

• replaced upper and lower control arms on a Honda Accord 2003,

• Installed brake pads, brake disks and brake drums on FJ Cruiser 2007 and Honda Accord 2003.
